Finish Your Game Jam Updates
The initial release of Guber was fun, and did actually work, but there was a lot to be done to make it better. Here's a quick list of some of the more major changes I've made during the Finish Your Game Jam to get the game in a better state:
- Mobile controls (this took a bit to get right)
- Changed the driving model to make drifting more fun
- Skidmarks when drifting
- Actual roads and sidewalks!
- Better collision data on the city itself
- Auto-follow camera (needed for mobile, but is default now)
- More starting money (was $10, now $25)
- Better sound management
- New Godot splash screen
- Lots of little bug fixes
- Settings menu
- Volume slider
- Mouse sensitivity slider
- Difficulty slider (changes how quickly you lose money)
These were a lot of changes that just made the game feel a lot better to play. You can now play it from your phone right from the itch page, which is really nice.
What's missing? Well, a lot. I still want to add things like items/upgrades/etc. to buy with your money, more types of cars, different maps, more goals, and more. There are a lot of directions I could go with this. I also want to extract out the car driving system into its own simple Godot project for others to learn from. It's based on a few different systems I've found and I like how it feels.
